THE PROBLEM

The code changed.
The context matters.

A diff records what changed. A useful commit message helps the next person understand it. Writing that message is a small, repeated part of a developer’s day.

Commitor gives you a starting point from the changes you have staged. The generated message stays a suggestion: you review the wording before committing.

BUILT AROUND YOUR WORKFLOW

Two ways in.
One shared core.

Choose the interface that fits how you work. The CLI and VS Code extension use the same core library for message generation.

01 / TERMINAL

Stay in the command line.

Set up Commitor, stage your changes, and generate a message. Preview and edit the draft before the CLI commits with your final wording.

Read the CLI guide
02 / EDITOR

Stay close to your code.

Generate from the VS Code Source Control panel. The suggestion appears in the commit input, ready for you to review, adjust, and commit.

PROVIDER CHOICE

Bring your provider.
Keep your judgment.

AnthropicOpenAI

Configure your chosen provider before generating. In API mode, the staged diff is sent to that provider to produce a message. Provider access and credentials are part of setup.

The public core includes an Anthropic SDK integration using the Messages API. You can inspect the implementation directly.

About connection modes

The documentation also describes browser mode as experimental. Read the current setup instructions for connection options and requirements.
